The M.A. FORD. 17862532NA is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance metal removal in demanding machining environments. It features a 5/8-inch mill diameter, five flutes, and a 0.015-inch corner radius that protects the cutting edge and reduces stress concentrations at part corners. The tool carries an ALTiN (ALtima) PVD coating applied via physical vapor deposition, which improves heat resistance and tool life during dry or semi-dry cutting. With a 1-3/4-inch length of cut and a 5-inch overall length, this is a long-reach configuration suited for deep-cavity and extended-reach applications. It is a single-end, centercutting tool with right-hand flute direction and right-hand cutting direction, intended for use in CNC machining centers with appropriate toolholders.
This end mill is rated for roughing and finishing operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium — material groups P, M, K, and S in ISO classification. The long-length, extended-reach configuration makes it well suited for mold and die work, aerospace component machining, and deep-pocket profiling where standard-length tools cannot reach. The close pitch and medium helix style balance chip evacuation with cutting stability across these demanding materials. It runs on CNC vertical or horizontal machining centers using standard straight-cylindrical shank toolholders.
Designed for use with standard straight-cylindrical shank toolholders. Rated for steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium (ISO material groups P, M, K, and S). Part of M.A. FORD. Series 178N.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before loading or unloading the tool. Seat the shank fully in the toolholder and torque the retention mechanism to the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before initiating a cut, as excessive runout on a five-flute tool accelerates uneven wear.
