The M.A. FORD. 17862516A is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance material removal in demanding machining applications. Built to Series 178 specifications, it features a 5/8-inch cutting diameter, five flutes, and a 0.06-inch corner radius that reduces stress concentration at the cutting edge. The tool carries an ALTiN (ALtima) PVD coating applied via physical vapor deposition, which extends tool life when cutting abrasive and high-temperature materials. A 38-degree medium helix promotes chip evacuation while maintaining edge stability. This is a single-end, centercutting tool suitable for both roughing and finishing passes on a CNC machining center or manual mill equipped with a compatible toolholder.
The 17862516A is suited for ferrous and exotic alloy machining environments including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium. Its close-pitch flute geometry and AlTiN coating make it well matched for shops running high-speed or high-feed programs where heat generation and tool wear are primary concerns. The straight-cylindrical shank accepts standard toolholders used in both vertical and horizontal milling setups. This tool is appropriate for job shops, production machining cells, aerospace component work, and general metalworking applications where tight tolerances and surface finish matter.
Designed for use with standard toolholders accepting a 5/8-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Compatible with CNC and manual milling machines set up for right-hand cutting tools. Primary workpiece material compatibility: steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), superalloys and titanium (S).
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully in the toolholder to the recommended gauge-line depth and verify runout before beginning a cut. Coolant-through is not supported on this tool, so verify that external coolant or minimum-quantity lubrication delivery is appropriate for the intended operation.
