The M.A. FORD. 17862502A is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance material removal in demanding machining environments. It features a 5/8-inch cutting diameter, a 0.015-inch corner radius, and five flutes with a medium 38-degree helix angle. The ALTiN (ALtima) PVD coating provides thermal resistance and edge hardness, making this tool effective in both roughing and finishing operations. At 3 inches overall length with a 3/4-inch length of cut, this is a single-end, centercutting tool with a straight-cylindrical shank. It is installed in standard toolholders by machinists and CNC operators working in production or job-shop settings.
This end mill is suited for cutting steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium. Its close-pitch flute geometry and right-hand cutting direction make it a capable choice for milling slots, pockets, and profiles where a controlled corner radius is required to reduce stress concentration and improve part surface quality. The Series 178 designation places it within M.A. FORD.'s general-purpose solid carbide end mill family, intended for use in conventional and high-speed machining centers with compatible toolholders.
Designed for use with standard toolholders on CNC machining centers. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe state before loading or unloading the tool. Seat the shank fully into the toolholder and torque the retention system to the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before cutting to protect the tool and workpiece.
