The M.A. FORD 17862500A is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision material removal in metalworking and machining applications. It features a 0.625 inch mill diameter, a 0.75 inch length of cut, and a 3 inch overall length, making it well-suited for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling operations. The five-flute configuration combined with a 38-degree helical flute angle supports efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. An ALtima coating adds surface hardness and heat resistance, extending tool life in demanding cuts. This tool is installed and operated by machinists and CNC tooling technicians working on production or job-shop milling equipment.
The 17862500A is intended for use in vertical and horizontal milling machines, CNC machining centers, and similar setups where a straight-cylindrical shank is required. It is classified for use on workpiece material groups H, K, M, P, and S, covering a broad range of metals including hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, carbon and alloy steels, and high-temperature superalloys. The right-hand cut and right-hand flute direction are standard for conventional CNC spindle configurations. Series 178 from M.A. FORD is built around micrograin carbide stock for consistent edge integrity across the tool life.
Rated for workpiece material groups H, K, M, P, and S per the supplier specification, covering hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, carbon and alloy steels, and superalloys. Fits standard 5/8 inch collets and end mill holders with a straight-cylindrical shank interface.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is locked out before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into a clean, undamaged collet or end mill holder and torque the retention hardware to the holder manufacturer specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a production cut, as excessive runout accelerates edge wear on carbide tooling.
