The M.A. FORD. 17837524NA is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for demanding metal-removal applications in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium. It carries a 3/8-inch cutting diameter, a 0.03-inch corner radius, and five flutes ground with a right-hand spiral and close pitch for efficient chip evacuation. The AlTiN (ALtima) PVD coating provides thermal resistance and hardness retention at elevated cutting temperatures. At 4 inches overall length with a 1-inch length of cut and extended reach, this tool suits deep-pocket and long-reach milling setups. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this end mill in standard straight-shank toolholders.
This end mill fits vertical and horizontal CNC machining centers in job shops, tool rooms, and production environments. The 178N Series long-length geometry makes it well suited for mold and die work, aerospace component machining, and general-purpose profiling in ferrous and difficult-to-machine materials. The centercutting design allows plunge entry without a pre-drilled pilot hole. The 2.125-inch reach length supports access to deep features while the 0.36-inch neck diameter provides clearance past workpiece walls. This tool handles both roughing and finishing passes, reducing tool changes in multi-operation programs.
Designed for use with straight-shank cylindrical toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch shank. Suitable for machining steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium on CNC vertical and horizontal milling machines. Series 178N long-length end mill geometry.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before inserting or removing the end mill from the toolholder. Verify toolholder runout is within acceptable tolerance before beginning a cut, as excessive runout accelerates edge wear on carbide tooling. Follow the machine tool manufacturer and cutting tool manufacturer feed and speed recommendations for the specific workpiece material.
