The M.A. FORD. 17837512A is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance material removal in demanding machining applications. It features a 3/8-inch diameter, a 0.0150-inch corner radius, and five flutes arranged in a right-hand spiral with a 38-degree helix angle. The ALtima PVD coating extends tool life when cutting abrasive and hard materials. At 2.5 inches overall length with a 7/8-inch length of cut, this single-end, centercutting tool handles both roughing and finishing operations without a tool change. It is suited for use in standard toolholders with a straight-cylindrical shank.
This end mill is engineered for machinists and CNC operators working with steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium. Its close-pitch, five-flute geometry supports higher feed rates while maintaining surface finish quality. The centercutting design allows plunge entry, adding versatility in slotting, profiling, and pocket-milling operations. Series 178 from M.A. FORD. targets high-performance cutting scenarios where tool life and dimensional consistency are critical. The corner radius geometry reduces stress concentration at the cutting edge, helping extend service intervals on hard and abrasive workpiece materials.
Designed for use with standard straight-cylindrical toolholders. Rated for cutting steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium (material codes P, M, K, S). Part of the M.A. FORD. Series 178 high-performance end mill line.
Installation is performed by machinists or CNC setup technicians using a compatible toolholder sized for a 3/8-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Verify runout and toolholder clamping force before cutting to maintain dimensional tolerances. Power down and lock out the spindle before changing or seating the tool. Follow the machine manufacturer and cutting tool manufacturer feed and speed recommendations for the specific workpiece material.
