The M.A. FORD 17831510A is a solid carbide square end mill engineered for high-performance metal removal in demanding machining applications. It features a 0.3150-inch cutting diameter, a 1.181-inch length of cut, and five flutes with a 38-degree helical flute geometry. The ALtima coating provides heat and wear resistance, extending tool life in difficult-to-machine materials. The micrograin carbide substrate supports edge sharpness and toughness across a range of workpiece materials. This tool is installed by machinists and toolroom professionals operating CNC machining centers and manual mills.
This end mill is suited for milling operations in materials classified under primary workpiece material codes H, K, M, P, and S, which correspond to hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, carbon and alloy steels, and high-temperature alloys. With a 0.315-inch straight cylindrical shank and an overall length of approximately 2.953 inches (75 mm), it fits standard collet and end mill holder systems used in both vertical and horizontal milling setups. The center-cutting geometry allows plunge entry.
Designed for use in standard collet chucks and end mill holders accepting a 0.315-inch (8 mm) straight cylindrical shank, compatible with CNC machining centers and manual milling machines running workpiece material codes H, K, M, P, and S per M.A. FORD Series 178 specifications.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the machine tool manufacturer guidelines for end mill holder torque and runout requirements. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before changing tooling. Verify collet or holder bore size matches the 0.315-inch shank diameter and that the tool protrudes no more than necessary for the operation to minimize deflection. Confirm spindle speed and feed rates are set appropriately for the workpiece material and coating type before engaging the cut.
