The M.A. FORD 17831224NA is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance material removal in demanding machining environments. With a 5/16 inch (0.3125 inch) mill diameter, 5 flutes, and a 0.03 inch corner radius, this tool is built for both roughing and finishing operations. The ALTiN (ALtima) PVD coating provides thermal resistance and hardness, extending tool life when cutting ferrous and exotic materials. The extended reach design and long-length configuration make it suited for deep-pocket and contour milling where standard-length tools fall short. Machinists and CNC operators working in job shops, aerospace, and precision manufacturing environments are the primary users.
This end mill is engineered for use on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium - material groups P, M, K, and S in the ISO classification system. The 5-flute, right-hand cutting geometry with a medium helix and close pitch delivers efficient chip evacuation and surface finish on CNC machining centers with standard toolholders. The single-end, centercutting configuration allows plunge entry and full contouring capability. The extended reach length of 2.125 inches accommodates deep-cavity work without sacrificing rigidity at the shank.
Compatible with standard straight-cylindrical toolholders. Designed for use in CNC machining centers running steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium workpieces. Part of the M.A. FORD Series 178N long-reach end mill family.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is clean and free of debris before seating the shank. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's torque and runout specifications for collet or hydraulic chuck engagement. Confirm tool projection length and reach clearance before initiating the cutting program to avoid interference.
