The M.A. FORD 17831210A is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling operations in demanding production environments. Built from micrograin carbide and finished with an ALtima coating, this tool delivers extended tool life and thermal resistance in a wide range of materials. It features a 5-flute helical design with a 38-degree helix angle and right-hand cut, right-hand flute geometry. The 0.3125 inch diameter and 0.8125 inch length of cut make it well suited for slot milling, profiling, and finishing passes where accuracy and surface finish matter. It is centercutting capable, allowing plunge entry without a pre-drilled pilot hole.
This end mill is intended for use on CNC machining centers and manual mills in job shop, production, and toolroom settings. It is suited for milling high-temp alloys, stainless steels, cast irons, non-ferrous metals, and steel workpieces, corresponding to material codes H, K, M, P, and S. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard ER collets and end mill holders with a 5/16 inch bore. It is a single-end tool from M.A. FORD Series 178, optimized for high-efficiency cutting in difficult-to-machine materials.
Designed for use in standard 5/16 inch end mill holders, ER collet chucks, and shrink-fit tooling systems. Suitable for machining workpiece material codes H, K, M, P, and S as specified by M.A. FORD Series 178 tooling classification.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom professional. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank in a clean, properly sized collet or end mill holder and torque to the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Inspect the shank and collet bore for chips or contamination before seating. Verify spindle speed and feed rate against M.A. FORD Series 178 cutting data for the target workpiece material before engaging the cut.
