The M.A. FORD 17818700A is a 5-flute solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in a wide range of metalworking applications. It features a 3/16 inch cutting diameter with a matching 3/16 inch length of cut and a straight cylindrical shank of the same diameter. Overall length is 2 inches. The ALtima finish coating and 38-degree helical flute geometry promote heat resistance and chip evacuation. Variable index spacing reduces harmonic vibration during cut. The tool is center-cutting, allowing both plunge and peripheral milling operations. Installed by machinists and tool-and-die professionals on CNC and manual milling equipment.
This end mill is suited for milling operations on a broad spectrum of workpiece materials including carbon and alloy steels, hardened steels, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and superalloys, corresponding to ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S. Its compact 3/16 inch diameter makes it a practical choice for fine-detail slot milling, profiling, and pocket work where larger tooling will not fit. The Series 178 designation places it within M.A. FORD's dedicated high-performance end mill line.
Designed for use with standard straight-shank collets and end mill holders accepting a 3/16 inch shank diameter. Rated for workpiece material groups H, K, M, P, and S per ISO material classification. Part of M.A. FORD Series 178.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with milling tool setup and cutting parameters. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool holder is clean and free of debris before seating the shank. Verify runout with an indicator after clamping, as excessive runout accelerates wear on small-diameter carbide tooling. Follow the machine tool manufacturer and tooling manufacturer recommendations for speeds, feeds, and depth of cut for the specific workpiece material.
