The M.A. FORD 17739300A is a solid carbide square end mill engineered for high-performance material removal in demanding machining applications. Built on the Series 177 platform, this single-end tool features a 0.3937 inch (10 mm) cutting diameter, a 0.8661 inch (22 mm) length of cut, and a matching 0.3937 inch straight shank for direct collet or end mill holder mounting. The four-flute geometry combined with a variable helix angle of 35 to 38 degrees and variable index spacing reduces harmonic chatter during aggressive cuts. An ALtima AlTiN coating provides thermal protection and extended tool life when cutting ferrous and high-temperature alloy workpieces. Machinists in precision job shops and production environments are the primary users of this tool.
This end mill is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and high-temperature alloys in CNC machining center applications. The center-cutting design allows plunge entry as well as conventional peripheral milling, making it effective for slotting, profiling, and pocketing operations. The micrograin carbide substrate supports higher surface footage compared to standard carbide grades, and the right-hand cut with right-hand spiral flute direction is compatible with standard CNC spindle rotation. The overall length of 72 mm accommodates typical toolholder projection requirements without excessive overhang.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers and manual mills equipped with collet chucks or end mill holders accepting a 0.3937 inch (10 mm) straight shank. Intended for cutting steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and high-temperature alloy workpieces per workpiece material codes P, M, K, and S.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician with the machine powered down and the spindle locked before tool changes. Ensure the shank is fully seated to the minimum insertion depth required by the toolholder manufacturer and torque the collet nut or set screw per the toolholder specification. Inspect the cutting edges and coating for chips or wear before each use, as carbide tooling is brittle and should not be used if edge damage is visible. Follow all applicable shop safety protocols and machine tool manufacturer guidelines during setup and operation.
