The M.A. FORD 17731210A is a solid micrograin carbide square end mill designed for high-performance material removal in demanding machining applications. The tool measures 0.3125 inches in diameter with a 0.8125-inch length of cut and a 2.5-inch overall length. It features a variable helix geometry at 35/38 degrees and variable index spacing, both of which reduce harmonic vibration and chatter during cutting. The ALtima coating improves wear resistance and thermal stability. Four helical flutes with a right-hand cut and right-hand flute direction provide efficient chip evacuation. Centercutting capability allows for plunge entry. This is a long-series tool in the Series 177 lineup.
This end mill is suited for milling operations across a broad range of workpiece materials including steels, hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, and high-temperature alloys, as indicated by the primary workpiece material codes H, K, M, P, and S. It is appropriate for use in CNC machining centers and manual mills where a 5/16-inch straight-cylindrical shank is compatible with the spindle or collet system. The long-series configuration extends reach into deeper pockets and profiles where standard-length tools would not clear the workpiece or fixture.
Designed for use with 5/16-inch collets or tool holders on CNC machining centers and manual mills. Compatible with workpiece material categories H, K, M, P, and S as defined in the Series 177 product line specifications.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the 0.3125-inch straight-cylindrical shank fully into a clean, undamaged collet or end mill holder and tighten to the tool holder manufacturer's specified torque. Inspect the cutting edges for chips or damage before each use, as carbide tooling is brittle and can fracture if dropped or improperly stored.
