The M.A. FORD 17731204A is a solid carbide corner radius end mill engineered for high-performance metal removal in demanding machining environments. It features a 5/16 inch cutting diameter, a 0.03 inch corner radius, and 4 flutes with a variable helix design to reduce chatter and improve surface finish. The ALtima AlTiN PVD coating provides thermal and wear resistance, making this tool well suited for aggressive cuts in hard and abrasive materials. With an overall length of 2 inches and a short-length flute configuration, this single-end, centercutting tool is designed for both roughing and finishing passes. It is installed by machinists and CNC operators in toolholders with a straight-cylindrical shank interface.
This end mill is intended for use on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium workpieces. It performs in both conventional milling and climb milling setups on CNC machining centers and manual knee mills. The variable helix geometry helps manage harmonics during extended cuts, and the centercutting capability allows plunge entry. Typical applications include profiling, slotting, contouring, and finishing passes on ferrous and exotic alloy components in job shop, aerospace, and general manufacturing environments.
Designed for use with standard toolholders accepting a 5/16 inch straight-cylindrical shank. Rated for primary workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium (material codes P, M, K, S).
Installation and tool changes should be performed by qualified machinists with the machine spindle fully stopped and locked out per applicable shop safety procedures. Seat the shank fully into a clean, undamaged toolholder and torque the set screw or collet nut according to the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Inspect the corner radius and cutting edges for chips before each use. Do not exceed the tool manufacturer recommended speeds and feeds for the workpiece material and depth of cut.
