The M.A. FORD. 17718700A is a 4-flute solid carbide square end mill engineered for demanding material removal in a wide range of workpiece materials. With a 3/16 inch mill diameter, 3/16 inch length of cut, and 2 inch overall length, this tool is built for precision work in tighter envelopes where rigidity and runout control matter. The TiAlN coating improves heat resistance and tool life in abrasive and high-temperature cutting conditions. A variable helix and variable index geometry reduce harmonic chatter, enabling more stable cuts at higher feed rates. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals specify this end mill for operations where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are non-negotiable.
This end mill is suited for milling, slotting, and profiling operations across a broad spectrum of workpiece materials, including hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, titanium, and high-temperature alloys. The centercutting capability allows direct plunge entry without a pre-drilled start hole. Its straight cylindrical shank fits standard ER collet chucks and end mill holders commonly found in CNC machining centers and manual knee mills. The 3/16 inch diameter makes it particularly applicable in die work, moldmaking, and component finishing where access to narrow features is required.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard production end mill fitting straight-cylindrical shank tool holders, compatible with workpiece material codes H, K, M, P, and S as designated by the manufacturer, covering hardened steels, cast irons, non-ferrous metals, carbon steels, and high-temperature alloys.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. The machine spindle must be powered off and locked out before mounting or removing the end mill from the tool holder. Torque the collet nut or set screw to the tool holder specification and verify runout with a dial indicator before cutting. Follow applicable shop safety standards and machine manufacturer guidelines for tool changes.
