The M.A. FORD. 16401960 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in tight-tolerance applications. With a 0.0196-inch (0.5 mm) cutting diameter and a 0.0393-inch (1 mm) length of cut, this tool is built for micro-scale work where accuracy and rigidity are critical. The micrograin carbide construction delivers the hardness and edge retention needed for demanding cuts. A 30-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. This end mill carries a bright, uncoated finish and is center-cutting capable, making it suitable for plunge entry as well as peripheral milling. It is installed and used by machinists and tool-and-die professionals working on CNC machining centers and manual mills.
This stub-length end mill is intended for use in micro-milling operations where minimal tool overhang and maximum rigidity are required. The 0.1181-inch (3.00 mm) straight-cylindrical shank fits standard collets used on CNC machining centers and precision manual mills. Workpiece material compatibility codes H, K, M, N, P, and S indicate suitability across a broad range of materials including hardened steels, cast irons, non-ferrous metals, non-metals, carbon and alloy steels, and heat-resistant superalloys. Designed as a Series 164 micro end mill for use in standard collet systems accepting a 0.1181-inch (3.00 mm) straight-cylindrical shank. Compatible workpiece material codes include H, K, M, N, P, and S.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle fully stopped and the machine powered down or in a safe, locked-out state. Seat the shank fully into the collet and torque the collet nut according to the machine and collet manufacturer specifications. At this cutting diameter, runout control is critical - verify tool runout with a dial indicator before cutting. Handle micro-diameter carbide tooling with care to avoid chipping the cutting edges.
