The M.A. FORD 13850002 is a single-end square end mill ground from solid micrograin carbide and finished bright/uncoated for use in non-ferrous metal applications. The cutter measures 0.5000 inches in diameter with a 1-inch length of cut and a 36-degree right-hand helical flute geometry across three flutes. The straight cylindrical shank is also 0.5 inches in diameter, and the overall tool length is 3 inches. Centercutting capability allows plunge entry as well as conventional peripheral and slot milling operations. Mill diameter tolerance is held to +0.000 to -0.0005 inches, which supports close-tolerance work in production and job-shop environments. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling specialists are the primary installers of this tooling.
This end mill is sized and geometrized for machining non-ferrous metals such as aluminum, brass, copper, and similar materials where chip evacuation and surface finish are priorities. The 36-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip flow and reduces heat buildup during high-speed passes. It is suited to vertical machining centers, CNC mills, and manual knee mills running appropriate spindle speeds and feed rates for non-ferrous stock. The Series 138 designation identifies its place within the M.A. FORD product family of general-purpose solid carbide end mills.
Designed for use in standard 1/2-inch straight-bore toolholders including ER collet chucks, end mill holders, and set-screw holders on CNC and manual milling machines. Primary workpiece material designation is non-ferrous metal (material code N).
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the control is in an e-stop or tool-change state before inserting or removing the tool. Seat the shank fully into the toolholder to the recommended gage-line depth and torque the retention mechanism to the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the cutting edges for chipping before each use; solid carbide is brittle and should not be dropped or contacted with hard surfaces.
