The M.A. FORD. 12100500 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision micro-milling operations. With a cutting diameter of 0.005 inches and a length of cut of 0.015 inches, this tool is built for extremely fine detail work where dimensional accuracy is critical. The 1/8-inch straight-cylindrical shank and 1.5-inch overall length make it compatible with standard collet systems used in CNC machining centers and high-speed spindles. The two-flute, right-hand spiral configuration with a 30-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation in tight-tolerance slots and contours. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals working in precision production environments are the primary users of this tool.
This end mill is suited for finish and detail milling passes in a wide range of workpiece materials, including hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous metals, high-temperature alloys, and titanium — corresponding to material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. Its centercutting geometry allows it to plunge directly into a workpiece, which is useful in die cavity work, micro-slot cutting, and engraving applications. The uncoated carbide substrate is appropriate for applications where coating buildup at such fine diameters could compromise tolerances.
Designed for use with standard 1/8-inch collet holders and end mill holders on CNC machining centers and high-speed micro-milling spindles. Suitable for workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S as specified by the manufacturer for Series 121.
Installation and use of this end mill should be performed by qualified machinists or CNC operators familiar with micro-tooling setups. Ensure the spindle and collet holder are clean and properly torqued before seating the shank to prevent runout at this diameter. At 0.005-inch diameter, even minor runout or vibration can cause tool breakage — confirm spindle balance and minimize overhang where possible. Always confirm correct spindle rotation direction before initiating a cut.
