The LUCAS-MILHAUPT 15%silver-1lb is a 15% silver content brazing alloy solder packaged in a 1-pound unit, designed for joining copper, brass, and similar metals in refrigeration, HVAC, and plumbing systems. Silver-bearing alloys at this composition deliver a strong, leak-resistant joint with good flow characteristics at moderate brazing temperatures. Licensed HVAC technicians and plumbers reach for this alloy when making refrigerant line connections, water line joints, and similar hard-solder applications where a reliable metallurgical bond is required.
This solder is suited for residential and light commercial work involving copper tubing and fittings. Common applications include HVAC refrigerant piping, hydronic heating connections, and plumbing repairs where a flux-applied silver braze is the specified joining method. The 1-pound package size is practical for field service kits and shop use alike.
Designed as an OEM-style silver brazing alloy for use on copper and brass tubing and fittings common in HVAC, refrigeration, and plumbing systems.
Silver brazing is typically performed by licensed HVAC technicians or journeyman plumbers using an oxy-acetylene or air-acetylene torch. Evacuate and recover any refrigerant from the system before applying heat to refrigerant lines, in accordance with EPA Section 608 requirements. A compatible silver-braze flux should be applied to the joint surfaces prior to heating. Allow joints to cool fully and inspect for proper flow-through before pressure testing.
