The LINCOLN ELECTRIC ED030631 is a solid MIG welding wire in the I-56 series, classified to AWS specification ER70S-6. It measures 0.030 inches in diameter and is wound on a 2-pound spool. ER70S-6 wire carries a higher manganese and silicon content than standard ER70S-3, making it well suited for welding on mill scale, light rust, or moderately contaminated base metals where weld pool deoxidation is critical. This wire is used in gas metal arc welding (GMAW) processes and is a common choice for professional fabricators, maintenance welders, and auto body technicians working with mild and low-alloy steels.
This wire is appropriate for flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions when used with the correct shielding gas, typically a 75 percent argon and 25 percent CO2 blend or straight CO2. The 2-pound spool size is well matched to light-duty production runs, field repair work, and smaller wire feed units where a 10-pound or 25-pound spool would be impractical. It works with standard MIG equipment across residential, commercial, and light industrial settings.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard consumable for MIG welders accepting 0.030-inch solid wire on a 2-pound spool. Compatible equipment must support GMAW processes and accommodate standard small-diameter spools.
Installation should be performed by a qualified welder or trained technician familiar with GMAW equipment setup. Before loading the spool, power down the welder and release tension on the drive roll. Set drive roll groove size to match the 0.030-inch wire diameter and verify the contact tip is also rated for 0.030 inches. Always confirm shielding gas flow rate and connections before striking an arc.
