The LINCOLN ELECTRIC ED030568 is an E7018 H8 classified low hydrogen welding electrode designed for shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) of mild steel. The electrode measures 3/32 inches in diameter and 14 inches in length. The E7018 classification indicates a minimum tensile strength of 70,000 psi, an all-position capable rod, and iron powder low hydrogen flux coating. The H8 designation certifies that diffusible hydrogen content is limited to 8 milliliters per 100 grams of deposited weld metal, reducing the risk of hydrogen-induced cracking. This electrode is used by certified welders and pipefitters on structural, pressure vessel, and general fabrication applications where weld integrity is critical.
The ED030568 is suited for flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead welding positions on mild steel base metals. It is a standard choice for structural steel fabrication, maintenance and repair welding, and pipeline work where low hydrogen deposit requirements are specified by code or engineering procedure. The 3/32 inch diameter makes it appropriate for thinner material passes or root and fill passes where heat input control is important.
Designed for use with conventional SMAW (stick) welding power sources capable of operating DC electrode positive (DCEP) or AC output, compatible with mild steel base metals in structural, fabrication, and repair applications.
Low hydrogen electrodes must be stored in a dry, temperature-controlled environment and should be kept in a rod oven or sealed container prior to use to prevent moisture absorption. Before welding, verify that the base metal is clean and free of mill scale, rust, oil, and moisture that could compromise weld quality. This electrode is installed and used by certified welders; relevant codes include AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code and applicable ASME Section IX requirements for pressure-boundary work. Do not use electrodes that have been exposed to moisture without proper reconditioning per manufacturer guidelines.
