Isolated ground receptacles separate the equipment grounding path from the standard grounding conductor, reducing electrical noise that can disrupt sensitive electronic equipment. This type of receptacle is commonly specified in commercial, institutional, and light industrial settings where computers, audiovisual systems, or other noise-sensitive devices are in use. Licensed electricians install this device as part of branch circuit wiring in finished wall applications.
The 16362-RIG is suited for use in commercial office environments, medical facilities, educational buildings, and other locations where power quality matters. The Decora Plus form factor fits standard decorator-style wallplates and single-gang or multi-gang device boxes, making it compatible with common finish hardware used in commercial build-outs and renovation projects. It serves as a direct device-level solution for reducing ground-path noise without requiring additional power conditioning equipment.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation isolated ground receptacle for use with standard single-gang and multi-gang decorator-style device boxes and matching Decora wallplates.
Installation must be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code) requirements for isolated ground circuits, including proper separation of the isolated ground conductor from the standard grounding system back to the panel. De-energize the branch circuit at the breaker and verify absence of voltage with a meter before beginning any wiring work. The isolated ground terminal must be connected only to an insulated equipment grounding conductor run back to the panel; do not bond it to the local box ground. Confirm local jurisdiction requirements, as some installations may require arc-fault or ground-fault circuit protection on the same circuit.
