The tamper-resistant shutter mechanism blocks access to the slots unless a plug is inserted simultaneously on both sides, meeting NEC requirements for tamper resistance in dwelling units. Licensed electricians install this device during new construction, remodel work, or direct replacement of failed GFCI receptacles.
