The LANG 2581M is a 26-piece tap and die set designed for cutting and restoring UNC and UNF threads in a range of common fractional inch sizes. The set includes 12 taps covering 1/4-20 through 9/16-32 and 14 hex dies covering 1/4-20 through 5/8-18, all manufactured from carbon steel. It is a practical shop tool for trade professionals who need to chase damaged threads, run new threads on rod or pipe stubs, or fabricate field repairs on threaded fasteners. The plastic storage case keeps pieces organized and protected between uses.
This set suits general mechanical work encountered by HVAC technicians, plumbers, electricians, and other trade pros who work with fractional fasteners. It covers the most common UNC coarse and UNF fine thread sizes found on equipment hardware, brackets, valve bodies, and field-fabricated supports. The hex die profile allows use with a standard wrench where a die stock is not available, adding flexibility in tight service locations.
Designed for use on fractional inch fasteners and threaded rod in UNC and UNF thread standards. Die thread sizes included: 1/2-13, 1/2-20, 1/4-20, 1/4-28, 3/8-16, 3/8-24, 5/16-18, 5/16-24, 5/8-11, 5/8-18, 7/16-14, 7/16-20, 9/16-12, and 9/16-18. Tap thread sizes included: 1/2-13, 1/4-20, 3/8-16, 5/16-18, 7/16-14, and 9/16-12, among others in the stated range.
Use appropriate cutting oil when tapping or threading to extend tool life and produce clean thread form. Always clear chips frequently during tapping to prevent tap breakage, particularly in blind holes. Taps and dies should be turned with steady, controlled pressure using a proper tap wrench or die stock, or a wrench sized to the hex die flats. Inspect threads after cutting with the mating fastener before assembly.
