The L H Dottie HBT is a hanger bolt designed for anchoring threaded rod, hooks, or fixtures into wood framing while exposing a machine-thread end for nut-and-washer fastening. At 1/4 inch in diameter and 3 inches in length, this fastener features a wood-screw thread on one end and a machine thread on the other, allowing it to be driven into lumber and then accept a standard nut. It is sold individually and is a common hardware component used in mechanical, plumbing, and electrical trade work wherever a threaded anchor point is needed in a wood substrate.
This hanger bolt sees regular use in residential and light commercial construction and service work. Typical applications include suspending threaded rod for pipe hangers, HVAC equipment supports, electrical conduit strut, and similar overhead or wall-mount assemblies. The dual-thread design eliminates the need for separate inserts, making installation faster in wood joists, studs, and blocking.
Designed as a standard 1/4 inch hanger bolt for use with wood framing substrates in residential and light commercial mechanical, plumbing, and electrical support assemblies.
Installation is typically performed by licensed plumbers, HVAC technicians, or electricians during rough-in or equipment mounting. Drive the wood-screw end into the substrate using two jam nuts threaded onto the machine end as a driver interface, or use a dedicated hanger bolt driver bit. Pre-drilling a pilot hole in hardwood prevents splitting and eases installation. Ensure the fastener is driven straight and fully seated before loading the suspended assembly.
