The KYOCERA TWE04635 is a solid carbide, uncoated turning insert in a 35-degree diamond (V) shape, designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the VCGT331AH designation under the ISOI series and uses the KW10 uncoated WC-Co carbide grade. The insert features a positive rake angle of 9 degrees, a 7-degree relief angle, and a sharp cutting edge style with an AH chip breaker. The inscribed circle measures 3/8 inches (0.375 inches), and the corner radius is 1/64 inches (0.0156 inches). With 2 cutting edges and screw-style holding, this insert is suited for light to medium-depth finishing operations. Installed by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is intended for turning non-ferrous metals and superalloys as its primary workpiece materials, with cast iron as a secondary application. Typical operations include external turning, facing, profiling, copying, back boring, internal facing, and undercutting. The sharp edge geometry and uncoated WC-Co substrate make it well suited for aluminum, copper alloys, and high-temp superalloys where a coated insert may cause built-up edge or excessive heat. The positive rake and AH chip breaker support controlled chip evacuation at higher surface speeds common in non-ferrous finishing passes.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement turning insert conforming to ANSI and ISO standards (ISO code VCGT160404AH, industry standard number VCGT331AHKW10) for use in toolholders accepting VCGT-style inserts with a 0.1732-inch hole diameter and screw clamping.
Insert installation and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine fully powered down and all axes at a safe position. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque - do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating a new insert. Always verify insert orientation and cutting edge engagement before resuming operation.
