The KYOCERA TSJ02990 is a TPMT-style cermet turning insert designed for precision metal cutting in CNC and manual turning applications. It features a 60-degree triangular insert shape with a positive rake angle of 15 degrees and a honed cutting edge for clean, consistent cuts. The TN60 cermet grade with TiCN plus NbC coating classification provides excellent wear resistance and surface finish when machining steel and stainless steel. With an inscribed circle of 0.25 inches, an insert length of 0.4334 inches, and a corner radius of 0.0313 inches, this insert is suited for finishing and semi-finishing operations. It is installed via screw-holding method and offers three usable cutting edges per insert.
This insert is rated for back boring, boring, copying, external turning, and internal facing operations. The primary workpiece material is steel (ISO code P), with a secondary application in stainless steel (ISO code M). It carries material grades P01, P10, and P20, making it appropriate for light to medium-depth turning passes. The maximum depth of cut is 0.1445 inches. The HQ chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip formation during finishing passes, reducing the risk of built-up edge on difficult materials. This insert is a multi-use tool applicable across a range of turning setups common in production and job shop environments.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit insert for standard TPMT-style screw-clamp toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO standards. ISO code designation is TPMT110308HQ. Industry standard number is TPMT222HQTN60.
This insert is installed and serviced by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to secure the clamping screw to the toolholder specification — do not overtighten, as cermet inserts are brittle and can fracture under excessive clamping force. Verify insert seating and clearance code compliance with the toolholder before resuming cuts.
