The KYOCERA TSJ00380 is a cermet turning insert designed for precision metal-cutting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to ISOI series standards and conforming to both ANSI and ISO specifications, it carries the industry standard designation CPMH322TN60. The insert features an 80-degree diamond shape with a positive rake geometry and an 11-degree relief angle, delivering clean shearing action on ferrous workpieces. The TN60 cermet grade with TiCN plus NbC coating classification provides wear resistance and edge stability during continuous finishing cuts. With a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a 1/32-inch corner radius, this insert is suited for light to medium material removal depths up to 0.125 inches. It is held in the toolholder via screw clamping and offers two usable cutting edges per insert.
This insert is engineered primarily for turning and boring operations on steel and stainless steel workpieces, covering ISO material codes P and M. Typical applications include external turning, internal facing, and boring passes where tight tolerances and fine surface finishes are required. The positive rake geometry reduces cutting forces, making it well-suited for slender workpieces and lighter-duty machine setups. The neutral hand designation means it can be seated in standard CPMH-style toolholders without directional restrictions. Designed as a direct-fit replacement for CPMH-style screw-clamp toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO CPMH090308 insert standards. Suitable for steel workpieces in ISO material grades P01, P10, and P20, as well as stainless steel applications in ISO grade M. Multi-use applications include boring and internal facing per manufacturer documentation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine fully stopped and in a locked-out, energy-isolated state before changing inserts. Seat the insert firmly against the toolholder pocket locating surfaces and tighten the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque before initiating any cut. Inspect the cutting edge and seating surfaces for chips or debris before each insert change. Dispose of worn inserts in accordance with applicable shop safety procedures for metal cutting tools.
