The KYOCERA TLC55233 is a solid carbide indexable turning insert in the SNMG433MS geometry, coated with KYOCERA Megacoat Nano via a PVD process and designated grade PR1535. It features a square insert shape with a 90-degree included angle, a neutral hand orientation, and a chamfered and honed cutting edge style. The 1/2-inch inscribed circle and 3/16-inch thickness place it in a mid-size class suited for moderate to heavy turning operations. With 8 usable cutting edges and a rake angle of negative 19 degrees, this insert is engineered for machining stainless steel and superalloys where edge toughness and coating adhesion are critical. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists are the primary installers.
This insert is intended for external turning, facing, boring, and chamfering operations on stainless steel and superalloy workpiece materials, corresponding to ISO material codes M and S and material grades M30, M40, S20, and S30. The MS chip breaker geometry is optimized for these tough, work-hardening materials. The insert seats via clamp and pin holding methods, making it compatible with standard SNMG-style toolholders used in production turning centers and manual lathes running in those material categories.
Designed for use in SNMG-style toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO standards. Compatible with turning applications targeting stainless steel and superalloy workpiece materials (ISO codes M and S). Industry standard number SNMG433MS PR1535; ISO code SNMG120412MS. Multi-use applications include boring, chamfering, external turning, and facing.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Confirm the insert pocket and clamping pin are free of chips and debris before installing to ensure proper seating and prevent premature edge failure. Avoid over-torquing the clamp screw beyond toolholder manufacturer specifications, as this can fracture the carbide substrate.
