The KYOCERA TLC00415 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying ISO designation BDMT170408ER-N4 and manufacturer grade PR1535. It features a parallelogram insert shape with an 82-degree included angle, a right-hand cutting orientation, and a positive rake geometry. The insert measures 17.00 mm in length, 9.60 mm wide, and 4.90 mm thick, with a corner radius of 0.80 mm (approximately 1/32 inch). The cutting edge is honed and features the ER-N4 chip breaker design. The insert is finished with KYOCERA MEGACOAT NANO, a PVD-applied multilayer coating engineered for extended tool life and edge stability in demanding materials. It is held in the cutter body by screw clamping and is a single-sided insert with two available cutting edges.
This insert is designed primarily for milling stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium, with secondary application capability in steel and cast iron. It is suited for face milling and shoulder milling operations where edge toughness and coating adhesion are critical. The insert is compatible with the MECH cutter series and carries an insert size code of 170408. Typical users are machinists and tool-and-die professionals working in aerospace, medical, and heavy industrial manufacturing environments where ISO material groups M and S are the primary workpiece targets.

Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom personnel. Ensure the cutter body pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips before inserting. Torque the clamping screw to the cutter body manufacturer specification — do not use values not published by the toolholder OEM. Inspect the cutting edge condition at each tool change and replace the insert before edge failure to protect the workpiece and cutter body.
