The KYOCERA TLC00414 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying the BDMT170408ER-N3 geometry designation and the PR1535 manufacturer grade. It is a single-sided, right-hand parallelogram-style insert designed for use in face milling and shoulder milling applications. The insert measures 17.00 mm in length and 9.60 mm in width, with a thickness of 4.90 mm. Corner radius is 0.80 mm (1/32 inch). The PR1535 grade features KYOCERA MEGACOAT NANO coating applied via a PVD process, providing wear resistance and thermal stability when cutting difficult materials. This insert is held in place by screw clamping and is intended for installation by machinists and CNC tooling technicians.
This insert is engineered primarily for milling stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium, with secondary application suitability for steel, cast iron, and additional stainless steel and superalloy grades. The ER-N3 chip breaker geometry and positive rake configuration support controlled chip evacuation and reduced cutting forces in these demanding material groups. It is suited for use in production machining environments running CNC vertical or horizontal milling centers. The insert carries ANSI and ISO standard designations, with an ANSI code of BDMT170408ERN3PR1535 and an ISO code of BDMT170408ER-N3. Compatible with the MECH and MEC cutter series toolholders.
Compatible with MECH and MEC series milling cutter bodies as stated by the manufacturer. Insert size code 170408 with an inscribed circle of 0.3780 decimal inch. Verify toolholder seat geometry and screw torque specifications against the applicable cutter body documentation before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Before replacing inserts, power down and lock out the machine spindle per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the insert fully against the pocket walls and torque the clamping screw to the value specified in the cutter body documentation — do not estimate torque without a calibrated tool. Inspect the pocket seat for chips or wear before installing a new insert, as debris under the insert can cause premature edge failure or runout.
