The KYOCERA TLC00405 is a solid carbide milling insert designed for high-performance face and shoulder milling in demanding material applications. It carries the BDMT170408ER-JT geometry with KYOCERA grade PR1535, a PVD-applied MEGACOAT NANO coating that provides wear resistance and edge stability at elevated cutting temperatures. The insert measures 17.00 mm in length, 9.60 mm in width, and 4.90 mm in thickness, with a corner radius of 0.80 mm (1/32 inch). It features two cutting edges, a positive rake angle, a honed cutting edge style, and an 18-degree relief angle. The insert is held in the cutter body by screw clamping and is single-sided with a right-hand orientation. It is sized to the MEC cutter series.
This insert is intended for milling stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium as primary workpiece materials, with secondary capability in steel and cast iron. It is suited for production and job-shop environments where tool life and edge consistency matter in ISO M and S material groups. The ER-JT chip breaker geometry manages chip formation in these tough, work-hardening materials. Machinists and toolroom technicians working with CNC machining centers will find this insert applicable to face milling and shoulder milling operations requiring controlled depth of cut up to 0.6693 inches. The MEC series cutter compatibility defines the acceptable toolholder family for this insert.

Installation is performed by machinists or toolroom technicians using the appropriate torx or hex key for the clamping screw specified by the cutter body manufacturer. Confirm the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is locked out before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the pocket locating surfaces before tightening the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or damage each time inserts are indexed or replaced.
