The KYOCERA TCR89049 is a ceramic turning insert designed for high-speed material removal in demanding machining operations. Built to ISO and ANSI standards under the ISOI series, this neutral-hand, diamond-shaped insert carries an 80-degree included angle and a 0.047-inch corner radius. The Al2O3/TiC ceramic substrate performs without a coating, making it well suited for dry cutting at elevated surface speeds. With four usable cutting edges and a negative rake geometry, the TCR89049 delivers repeatable performance in production turning environments where tool change frequency and edge consistency matter most.
This insert is intended for turning applications involving cast iron and hard materials, corresponding to ISO material grades K01, K10, H01, and H10. Typical applications include external turning, boring, facing, internal facing, and chamfering. The CNGA-style geometry and clamp-and-pin holding method make it compatible with standard CNGA toolholders used in CNC lathes and manual turning centers in both production and job-shop settings. Licensed machinists and toolroom technicians handling hardened workpieces or abrasive cast iron components are the primary users of this insert.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard production insert for CNGA-style toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO interface specifications. Compatible with systems rated for cast iron and hard material grades K01, K10, H01, and H10 per ISO material classification.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians following standard insert indexing procedures. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or rotating the insert. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping pin for wear or debris before seating a new edge, as ceramic inserts are brittle and will fracture if seated on an uneven or contaminated pocket surface. Do not use ceramic inserts on interrupted cuts unless the application data from the toolholder manufacturer explicitly supports it.
