The KYOCERA TCR00170 is a square ceramic turning insert designed for high-speed machining of cast iron and hard materials. Built to ANSI and ISO standards, this insert uses an Al2O3 and TiC ceramic composition with an uncoated finish. It carries an A65 manufacturer grade and features a negative rake geometry with a neutral hand orientation. The 0.5 inch inscribed circle and 0.0625 inch corner radius suit a range of precision turning operations. With 8 available cutting edges per insert, it delivers extended tool life and consistent performance in demanding production environments. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling professionals are the primary installers and users.
The TCR00170 is suited for external turning, facing, boring, and chamfering applications on cast iron and hard workpiece materials. Its SNG-style square insert geometry and clamp-style holding method make it compatible with standard SNG insert toolholders used in both rigid and semi-rigid setups. The insert is appropriate for tight-tolerance finishing and semi-finishing passes on ferrous hard materials, particularly in environments where thermal hardness resistance is required. Material grades K01, K10, H01, and H10 define the recommended workpiece material range per ISO classification.
Designed for use in clamp-style SNG toolholders compatible with square ceramic inserts. Recommended for cast iron (K-grade) and hard material (H-grade) workpieces per ISO material classification K01, K10, H01, and H10. Multi-use application includes boring, chamfering, external turning, and facing per supplier specifications.
Installation and indexing of this insert should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert in its toolholder. Verify clamp torque and seating against the toolholder manufacturer specifications before resuming cuts. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut of 0.1667 inches as stated in the supplier data.
