The KYOCERA TBZ07002 is a cubic boron nitride (CBN) turning insert designed for high-precision machining of hard and difficult-to-cut materials. It features a MEGACOAT PVD coating applied over a micrograin CBN substrate, designated manufacturer grade KBN25M. The insert is left-hand orientation with an 80-degree trigon (trigon) shape, a 5/32-inch (0.1563-inch decimal) inscribed circle, and a corner radius of 1/128 inch (0.0080-inch decimal). With a single cutting edge and positive rake geometry, it delivers controlled chip flow and edge stability during finish and semi-finish turning operations. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists are the primary installers of this insert.
This insert is suited for turning hard workpiece materials, classified under ISO material group H, including hardened steels and similar ferrous materials. The positive rake and tight corner radius support tight-tolerance finishing passes where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are critical. Its ISOI series designation and compliance with both ANSI and ISO standards make it a fit for shops running standard toolholding systems. The screw-held clamping method provides secure indexing in compatible toolholders. It ships as a single-tipped, individually packaged insert.
Designed for use in WBGW-style left-hand toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO standards; the ISO equivalent code for this insert is WBGW060102T00815L-SE. Verify toolholder bore diameter compatibility with the 0.0906-inch decimal hole diameter before installation.
CBN turning inserts should be installed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician following machine tool lockout/tagout procedures before any insert change. Use a calibrated torque screwdriver when securing the clamping screw to avoid over-torquing or fracturing the insert. Inspect the pocket seat and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating the insert. Do not use CBN inserts on interrupted cuts or soft, non-ferrous workpiece materials without confirming suitability with the tooling manufacturer.
