Product Description

The KYOCERA TBN01455 is a cubic boron nitride (CBN) turning insert in the CNGA style, designed for high-speed machining of hard and difficult-to-cut materials. Carrying the ISO designation CNGA120402S01225ME, it features an 80-degree diamond insert shape with a negative rake and a 0-degree relief angle. The insert is finished with KYOCERA Megacoat PVD coating applied to a KBN05M grade substrate, providing thermal stability and edge integrity during interrupted and continuous cuts on hardened steels and similar workpiece materials. Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists and tool setters.

This insert is suited for external turning, boring, internal facing, chamfering, and facing operations on hard materials rated in the H01 and H10 material grade range. Its multi-tipped, neutral-hand configuration supports versatile positioning in compatible CNGA-style toolholders. The honed cutting edge style reduces micro-chipping at the edge when entering hardened workpieces. With a maximum depth of cut of 0.1024 inches, it is best applied in light to moderate stock-removal passes on hardened components.

Key Features

  • Cubic boron nitride (CBN) insert material for machining hardened and hard-to-cut workpieces
  • Megacoat PVD coating on KBN05M grade substrate for thermal and wear resistance
  • 80-degree diamond insert shape (Shape Code C) with neutral hand for flexible toolholder fitment
  • Honed cutting edge style reduces micro-chipping on hardened material entry
  • Multi-tipped design with 2 cutting edges per insert
  • Compatible with clamp and pin insert holding methods

Compatibility

Designed for use in CNGA-style toolholders that accept a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, 3/16-inch thick, diamond 80-degree insert with a clamp and pin holding method. Suitable for multi-use applications including boring, external turning, chamfering, facing, and internal facing on hard material workpieces.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tool setter following the machine tool manufacturer guidelines for CNGA insert holders. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and all motion is locked out before indexing or replacing the insert. Verify the insert seat and clamping pocket are clean and free of debris before seating the insert. Follow ISO and shop-specific tool change procedures to confirm proper clamp and pin engagement before resuming cuts.
