The KYOCERA TBA01462 is a cubic boron nitride (CBN) turning insert designed for high-speed machining of hard materials. Built to CNGA style geometry with an 80-degree diamond insert shape, this insert features a MEGACOAT PVD coating applied over a KBN35M grade CBN substrate. It carries a neutral hand orientation and a chamfered and honed cutting edge style. With a 0.5-inch inscribed circle and a 0.0469-inch corner radius, the TBA01462 is suited for precision finishing and semi-finishing operations where dimensional accuracy and tool life matter. The insert has two cutting edges and is multi-tipped for extended use per unit.
This insert is intended for machining hard workpiece materials, classified under ISO material group H, including hardened steels and similar ferrous alloys typically encountered in production turning environments. Suitable applications include external turning, boring, internal facing, chamfering, and facing operations. It is designed for use in rigid, high-speed setups where CBN tooling provides a clear advantage over carbide. The ISOI series classification and dual ANSI and ISO standards compliance make it compatible with standard toolholders accepting CNGA-style inserts. The ISO designation for this insert is CNGA120412S01730MET.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard-production CNGA turning insert for rigid toolholders accepting CNGA-style inserts per ANSI and ISO standards. ISO equivalent designation is CNGA120412S01730MET. Suitable for H01 and H10 material grade workpieces.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured before seating or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer when tightening the clamp or pin retention system. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before installation to ensure proper insert contact and prevent premature edge failure.
