The KYOCERA OTM87664 is a steel indexable boring bar designed for precision internal boring and facing operations on CNC lathes and machining centers. Built to the DCLN toolholder style, it accepts CNMG 43.. series diamond-shaped inserts secured by screw clamping for repeatable, rigid insert retention. The bar features a 1-1/4 inch shank diameter and a 12 inch overall length, with a minimum bore diameter of 1.5 inches and a maximum bore depth of 16.14 inches. Coolant-through capability supports chip evacuation and tool life in deep-bore applications. A negative rake angle of -11 degrees and a 5-degree lead angle suit this bar to interrupted cuts and hard materials typical in production turning environments.
This boring bar is suited for right-hand cutting applications in production and job-shop environments where CNMG 43.. inserts are already in the tool crib. Typical applications include internal diameter finishing, rough boring, and facing passes on steel, cast iron, and similar materials. The single-insert configuration keeps setup straightforward, and the screw clamping method allows fast insert indexing without removing the bar from the turret. It is a multi-use tool appropriate for both roughing and finishing depending on insert grade selection.
Designed for use with CNMG 43.. series diamond-shaped inserts with a 1/2 inch inscribed circle and 0.1875 inch compatible thickness. Part of the DBCB series toolholder family.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Secure the shank fully within the turret or boring head to the recommended clamping depth before operation. Power down the machine and follow lockout/tagout procedures before changing inserts or adjusting the toolholder. Do not exceed the rated minimum bore diameter to avoid toolholder contact with the workpiece bore wall.
