The KYOCERA OTM86404 is an indexable square-shoulder end mill engineered for precision milling of aluminum and non-ferrous materials. It features a 1-inch cutting diameter, a 0.64-inch maximum depth of cut, and a 90-degree lead angle that produces true square shoulders in a single pass. The Weldon flat shank measures 0.75 inches in diameter and provides a secure, anti-pullout connection in compatible toolholders. With through-coolant capability, this end mill maintains cutting-edge temperatures during high-speed operations. It accepts APET 1604 insert style inserts secured by screw-lock retention, making insert changes fast and repeatable. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in job shops and production environments will find this tool well-suited to face milling, shoulder milling, and slotting operations.
The OTM86404 is built for the EM-AL cutter series and is a strong choice for aluminum aerospace components, mold work, and high-volume production runs where consistent wall perpendicularity is required. The 2-flute configuration supports chip evacuation in aluminum and soft alloys. With a 1.36-inch usable length and a 3.375-inch overall length, the tool fits standard vertical and horizontal machining centers as well as multi-axis CNC mills equipped with Weldon-flat toolholders. Through-coolant delivery helps clear chips from the cut zone and prolongs insert life in uninterrupted and interrupted cuts alike.
Designed for use with APET 1604 insert style inserts in the KYOCERA EM-AL toolholder series. Requires a toolholder or spindle with a 0.75-inch Weldon flat bore to seat correctly.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Secure the Weldon flat shank fully into the toolholder bore and tighten the set screw against the flat to the toolholder manufacturer's specification before running. Confirm through-coolant passages are clear and that coolant pressure meets machine and insert manufacturer recommendations before cutting. Always power down and lock out the spindle before indexing or replacing inserts.
