The KYOCERA OTM86282 is an indexable insert drill from the Holeshot Series, designed for high-productivity hole-making in metalworking and machining applications. Built on a steel body, this drill accepts four WCMX-style inserts and delivers a maximum drill depth of 5.81 inches at a 3xD depth-to-diameter ratio. The 1-15/16 inch cutting diameter and 1-1/2 inch whistle notch shank make it compatible with standard DR-style drill bodies. Coolant-through capability supports chip evacuation and tool life in demanding cuts. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in job shops and production environments are the primary installers of this tooling.
This drill is suited for right-hand cutting operations in production and job shop environments where consistent, repeatable hole quality is required. The Holeshot Series is engineered for use in steel, cast iron, and similar ferrous materials where indexable insert tooling is preferred over solid carbide for cost-per-hole efficiency. The 3xD ratio makes it appropriate for moderate-depth holes without the need for peck cycles in many setups. The body length of 7.20 inches and shank length of 2.69 inches allow straightforward setup on CNC machining centers and lathes equipped with DR-style toolholders.
Compatible with DR-style drill bodies and toolholders. Takes WCMX 050308-M1A indexable inserts. Shank is 1-1/2 inches diameter whistle notch style for use with matching DR-style toolholding systems.
Installation and setup should be performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is securely locked before seating or indexing inserts. Verify insert torque and seating per the insert manufacturer guidelines before initiating a cut. Confirm coolant-through passages are clear and flow is active before production runs to protect insert life and prevent chip packing.
