The KYOCERA 8832916 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying the ANSI designation APET1604PDFR and manufacturer grade KW10. It is a single-sided, parallelogram-shaped insert with a positive rake geometry and a sharp cutting edge style. The insert seats via a screw-holding method and delivers two cutting edges per insert. Designed for face and shoulder milling operations, it fits into compatible aluminum and non-ferrous milling cutter bodies. The PDFR chip breaker geometry and 11-degree relief angle are matched to high-shear, low-force cutting in non-ferrous and cast iron applications. This insert is suited for milling non-ferrous metals as its primary workpiece material and cast iron as its secondary application. The KW10 grade is an uncoated, bright-finish solid carbide grade in the C3 material grade classification, well-matched to aluminum, brass, and other non-ferrous alloys where coatings can build up edge deposits. It is used in production and job-shop environments running CNC machining centers. Typical applications include face milling, shoulder milling, and pocket milling in both light and medium depths of cut. This is a right-hand insert intended for right-hand cutter bodies in the OTMA series.
Designed for use in KYOCERA cutter series FMAL, EM-AL, and CM-AL. Insert size code is 1604 with an inscribed circle of 0.375 inches, fitting cutter pockets specified for APET1604 style inserts. Confirm pocket geometry and screw specification with the cutter body documentation before installation.
This insert is installed by a machinist or CNC tooling technician. Before changing inserts, confirm the machine spindle is stopped, locked out, and the cutter body is secured in a vise or fixture to prevent rotation. Use the correct torx or hex drive as specified by the cutter body manufacturer for the insert clamping screw — do not overtighten or substitute fasteners. Inspect the pocket seat and clamping screw for wear or damage before installing a new insert.
