The KRYLON K00781008 is a flat black, alkyd-based rust preventative paint formulated for direct-to-metal application on steel, wood, and metal surfaces. Packaged in a 1-gallon pail, it delivers 361 to 369 square feet of coverage per gallon and dries fully within 8 hours. The alkyd composition provides a durable barrier against corrosion and is approved for both interior and exterior use. It is applied by contractors, maintenance technicians, and industrial painters working on structural and mechanical systems where rust protection and a flat black finish are required.
This coating is suited for a wide range of industrial and commercial applications including structural steel, storage tanks, conveyors, ladders, bar joists, fencing, handrails, machinery, piping, metal doors, pipe racks, shelving, safety markings, and marine above-the-boot-topping service. It performs in ambient temperatures between 40 degrees F and 120 degrees F, making it appropriate for seasonal exterior work as well as controlled indoor environments. Its direct-to-metal formula eliminates the need for a separate primer coat on clean metal substrates.
Designed for use on steel, wood, and metal surfaces in structural, mechanical, and industrial settings including structural steel, storage tanks, conveyors, ladders, bar joists, fencing, handrails, machinery, piping, metal doors, pipe racks, shelving, safety markings, and marine above-the-boot-topping applications. Replaces MSC part number 42431668.
Surface preparation is critical before application — remove loose rust, mill scale, oil, and contaminants per standard surface prep practices. Apply within the recommended temperature range of 40 degrees F to 120 degrees F and avoid application in high humidity or on wet surfaces. Use appropriate PPE including respirator, gloves, and eye protection per applicable safety data sheet guidance. Allow full 8-hour dry time before exposing the coated surface to service conditions.
