The KNAUF INSULATION 522134 is a rigid fiberglass duct board with an FSK (foil-scrim-kraft) facing, designed for the fabrication and insulation of rectangular HVAC ductwork. At 1.5 inches thick and measuring 48 inches x 120 inches per board, it provides structural rigidity that allows direct fabrication of supply and return air ducts without a separate sheet-metal liner. The FSK facing acts as an air barrier and vapor retarder on the exterior surface. Licensed HVAC contractors and sheet-metal fabricators are the primary installers of this product.
This duct board is used in residential and light commercial HVAC installations where fabricated fiberglass duct systems replace or supplement conventional sheet-metal ductwork. It is suited for low-pressure air distribution systems, including supply plenums, trunk lines, and branch ducts. The board's rigidity supports scoring, snapping, and stapling workflows standard in duct fabrication. The ECOSE Technology binder system is a formaldehyde-free bonding agent used in the fiberglass matrix.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard supply for low-pressure residential and light commercial fiberglass duct board fabrication applications.
Installation is performed by licensed HVAC technicians or sheet-metal fabricators following SMACNA Fibrous Glass Duct Construction Standards and applicable local mechanical codes. Shut down and lock out the air handling system before modifying or connecting any duct section. Use a straight edge and duct board knife for scoring; seal all joints with UL 181B-listed pressure-sensitive or heat-activated tape rated for fiberglass duct board. Wear appropriate PPE, including gloves, eye protection, and a dust mask, when cutting fiberglass board.
