The KILLARK R-31 is an explosion-proof conduit reducer designed to transition conduit runs from 1 inch down to 1/2 inch in hazardous location electrical installations. This fitting is built to contain any ignition or arc event within the fitting body, preventing propagation to the surrounding atmosphere. It is a core component in Class I and Class II hazardous area wiring systems found in petrochemical facilities, refineries, grain handling operations, and industrial plants. Licensed electricians and industrial electrical contractors install this fitting as part of a listed explosion-proof conduit system.
The R-31 is used where a conduit run must step down in trade size at a junction, panel entry, or device connection point within a classified hazardous location. It is suited for use in Division 1 and Division 2 areas where flammable gases, vapors, or combustible dust may be present. The fitting integrates into rigid metal conduit systems requiring continuous explosion-proof integrity throughout the raceway.
Designed as an OEM-style fitting for use in explosion-proof rigid metal conduit systems requiring a 1 inch to 1/2 inch trade size reduction in hazardous locations.
Installation must be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with NFPA 70 (NEC) Articles 500-505 governing hazardous location wiring. De-energize the circuit and verify lockout/tagout procedures are complete before working on any conduit fitting in a classified area. All threaded connections must be fully engaged per NEC requirements for explosion-proof systems. Do not use this fitting in a non-explosion-proof conduit assembly where system integrity would be compromised.
