The KEO 956-000-137 is a solid carbide spotting drill designed to create precise starter points for follow-on drilling operations in metal fabrication and machining applications. With a 142-degree point angle, this tool produces a shallow, accurate conical seat that centers twist drills and prevents walking on flat or curved workpiece surfaces. The 5/16 inch cutting diameter and matching 5/16 inch straight-cylindrical shank make it compatible with standard drill chucks and collet holders. At 2.5 inches overall length with a 0.875 inch flute length, it fits most vertical mills, drill presses, and CNC machining centers. The bright, uncoated finish suits general-purpose use across a range of common workpiece materials.
This spotting drill is suited for general-purpose shop use in job shops, manufacturing facilities, and production environments where consistent hole location accuracy is required. The 142-degree point angle is matched to standard twist drill geometry, helping reduce the need for center punching and improving positional accuracy before full-depth drilling. It is installed and used by machinists, tool-and-die makers, and CNC operators working with ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Right-hand cutting direction aligns with standard spindle rotation on conventional machine tools.
Designed as a general-purpose spotting drill for use in standard drill chucks, ER collets, and other straight-shank toolholders on drill presses, vertical milling machines, and CNC machining centers.
Install and remove this tool with the machine spindle fully stopped and the power source locked out per applicable shop safety procedures. Secure the shank fully within the chuck or collet to the recommended grip depth before operation. Spotting drills are intended for shallow spotting passes only and should not be used as center drills or run to full flute depth. Consult machine tool documentation for appropriate spindle speed and feed recommendations for the workpiece material.
