The KENNAMETAL 7102869 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill from the HARVI IV series, designed for high-performance milling in demanding metal-cutting applications. It features an 8-flute geometry with a variable helix angle of 35 degrees and an AlCrN coating for extended tool life under high-heat conditions. The corner radius measures 0.06 inches (1.52 mm), reducing stress concentration at the cutting edge. With a 0.5-inch diameter and a 2.0-inch length of cut, this tool is suited for semi-finishing and finishing passes in deep-cavity and peripheral milling operations. Licensed machinists and CNC programmers in production shops will find this tool well matched to difficult-to-machine alloys and hardened steels.
This end mill is used in CNC machining centers for milling ferrous and difficult alloy materials where tool stability and surface finish consistency are critical. The coolant-through capability supports high-speed material removal by delivering coolant directly to the cutting zone, reducing heat buildup and chip packing in deep-pocket or slotting applications. The chipbreaker geometry helps manage chip evacuation in extended-reach or multi-pass operations. It is a single-end, non-centercutting tool, meaning it is not intended for plunge drilling and should be ramped or helical-interpolated into material.
Designed as an OEM-specified tool in the KENNAMETAL HARVI IV series; catalog reference HA4R8RA0500X200HAR060D. Confirm spindle taper, collet size, and machine power requirements before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the control is in a safe state before loading or unloading the tool. Use a properly sized precision collet or hydraulic chuck matched to the 0.5-inch straight-cylindrical shank to maintain runout within acceptable limits. This tool is non-centercutting and requires a ramp, arc, or helical entry path - direct axial plunging will damage the cutting edges.
