The KENNAMETAL 7097934 is a carbide grooving insert designed for external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Part of the Beyond Evolution series, it features a 0.187 inch cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 0.108 inches, making it suited for moderate-depth grooving passes. The insert carries a KCU10B manufacturer grade with an AlTiN coating applied via PVD process, providing wear resistance and thermal stability in a range of workpiece materials. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in production or job-shop environments are the primary installers of this tooling.
This insert fits grooving toolholders that accept EG-style, size 4 inserts with a clamp-style holding method. The neutral hand orientation and double-end design allow it to be used in standard grooving applications without directional restriction. The GUN chip breaker geometry with a positive rake angle promotes chip control and reduces cutting forces during grooving. It is suitable for both ferrous and non-ferrous machining applications where a 0.187 inch groove width is required.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for EG-style size 4 grooving toolholders accepting clamp-held carbide inserts in the Beyond Evolution series platform.
This insert is installed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Always power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully in the pocket and confirm the clamp applies uniform pressure before resuming operation. Inspect the insert seat for chips or debris prior to installation to avoid seating errors that can damage the toolholder or workpiece.
