The KENNAMETAL 7097843 is a carbide grooving insert designed for external and internal grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to the A4G insert style with a size code of 6, it delivers a cutting width of 0.25 inches and a maximum depth of cut of 0.187 inches. The insert is coated with AlTiN via a PVD process under the KCU10B manufacturer grade, giving it wear resistance across a range of workpiece materials. With two cutting edges in a double-end configuration, the 7097843 offers extended tool life per insert. A positive rake geometry and GMN chip breaker promote controlled chip evacuation during grooving passes. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert as part of a clamp-held tooling system.
This insert fits applications where precise groove width control is required in turning operations. The neutral hand orientation makes it suitable for standard radial grooving from either a right-hand or left-hand tool block depending on the holder setup. The A4 series designation identifies the compatible toolholder family. With a corner radius of 0.031 inches and a lead angle of zero degrees, the insert suits square-shoulder grooves in materials that respond well to PVD AlTiN-coated carbide tooling. It is designed for multi-use tooling systems, allowing it to be used for grooving as well as related operations depending on the program and setup.
Designed for use with KENNAMETAL A4 series clamp-held grooving toolholders accepting size 6 inserts. Confirm holder compatibility by matching the A4G insert style designation and insert seat size 6 before installation.
This insert is installed and indexed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamping screws specified for the toolholder to seat the insert securely without over-torquing the clamp. Inspect the insert seat for chips or debris before seating the new insert to ensure accurate positioning and prevent premature edge failure.
