The KENNAMETAL 7097841 is a double-end carbide grooving insert designed for precision groove turning and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to the A4G insert style in size code 4, it delivers a cutting width of 0.1870 inches (4.760 mm) and a maximum depth of cut of 0.1380 inches (3.52 mm). The insert features a neutral hand orientation, making it suitable for both left- and right-hand toolholder setups. Coated with an AlTiN finish applied via PVD process under the KCU10B manufacturer grade, it offers strong wear resistance and thermal stability during interrupted and continuous grooving cuts.
This insert is used in external and internal grooving applications across general metalworking and production turning environments. The A4 series geometry with a GMN chip breaker is suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes where chip control and surface finish matter. The positive rake angle promotes free cutting action and reduces cutting forces, which benefits both workpiece integrity and toolholder loading. With two cutting edges per insert, the 7097841 extends usable tool life per piece. It is installed in compatible A4G-style clamp-type toolholders commonly found on production lathes in job shops and manufacturing facilities.
Designed for use in A4G-style clamp-type grooving toolholders in the A4 series. Confirm toolholder series, insert seat size 4, and insert thickness compatibility before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Power down and fully de-energize the machine before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench for the clamping screw to seat the insert securely without over-tightening the clamp. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for wear or debris before seating the new insert, and verify cutting edge orientation matches the programmed toolpath before resuming operation.
