The KENNAMETAL 7097838 is a carbide grooving insert designed for precision parting and grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured in the A4G insert style with a size code of 3, it delivers a cutting width of 0.1250 inches (3.180 mm) and a maximum depth of cut of 0.1340 inches (3.40 mm). The insert is finished with an AlTiN coating applied via PVD process under the KCU10B grade, providing strong wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. With two cutting edges and a double-end configuration, it offers extended service life per insert.
This insert is suited for grooving, undercutting, and light parting applications in both ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The neutral hand orientation makes it adaptable to a range of toolholder setups. It is used in production and job-shop turning environments and is appropriate for shops running high-volume precision parts. The positive rake geometry and GMN chip breaker promote controlled chip formation and reduced cutting forces during shallow grooving passes. Installation is handled by machinists and CNC lathe operators in general metalworking applications.

Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket and verify clamp engagement before resuming operation. Inspect the insert seat and clamping screw for wear or debris prior to each insert change to ensure proper seating and dimensional accuracy.
