The KENNAMETAL 7097830 is a carbide grooving insert designed for precision grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to the A4R insert style in size code 3, it features a 0.120-inch cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 0.101 inches. The insert is coated with AlTiN via a PVD coating process, providing high heat resistance and extended tool life in demanding cut conditions. With a positive rake geometry and full corner radius of 0.060 inches, it produces clean, accurate grooves. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert as part of the Kennametal A4 series grooving system.
This insert is suited for grooving, recessing, and parting applications on ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials in both production and job shop environments. The GMN chip breaker geometry helps control chip flow in medium to light grooving passes. Its double-end configuration and neutral hand orientation make it adaptable across a variety of toolholder setups within the A4 series.
Designed for use with Kennametal A4 series grooving toolholders that accept size 3 inserts with A4R style geometry and clamp-type insert retention.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket before tightening the clamp to ensure proper registration and cutting edge alignment. Inspect the insert seat for chips or debris prior to installation to prevent seating errors or premature edge failure.
